Rotherham United have signed defender Greg Halford following his release by Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

Halford made 82 appearances for Forest having joined from Portsmouth in July 2012 for an undisclosed fee.

The 30-year-old former Colchester trainee finished last season on loan at Brighton, featuring in 20 games.

"Not only is he a talented footballer, he is a talented footballer in a vast number of positions," Rotherham manager Steve Evans told the club's website.

"He brings a fantastic aerial presence, he is a good finisher when chances arise, and his presence on the team sheet will have the opposition guessing where we intend to play him."

Halford's 13-year career has also included spells with Reading, Sunderland, Charlton, Sheffield United and Wolves.
