Guernsey FC deserved to come away from Hythe Town with a point from their 1-1 draw, says coach Steve Sharman.

Craig Young's 85th-minute equaliser salvaged a point after going behind to Rene Rivera's first-minute strike.

"It's the first time this season we've played well in the second half and carried the momentum through from the first half," Sharman told BBC Guernsey.

"I think we thoroughly deserved it and the most pleasing thing for us as coaches was the way we got our goal."

Hythe had Lee Punton sent off in the 64th minute and Sharman added: "They were down to 10 men and very difficult to break down.

"But we found the pockets of space and played through them rather than playing long hopeful balls, so scoring that goal was real just desserts."

Guernsey are 13th in the Isthmian League Division One South.
