Garath McCleary admitted he is "not fully fit" after coming off the bench to score Reading's winner in the League Cup tie against Portsmouth.

Winger McCleary returned from a calf tear sustained while playing for Jamaica in the Gold Cup in July.

He was part of the Jamaica squad which finished runners-up to Mexico.

"I still need game time after four weeks off, but the medical team here have been brilliant for me," the 28-year-old told BBC Radio Berkshire.

McCleary has opted to miss the Reggae Boyz' World Cup qualifier against Nicaragua next month to be at home while his partner expects to give birth.

"Hopefully I'll benefit from the extra rest," he added.

"It's all about getting match fitness and if I can help in any way to create some more chances and score some more goals, that will be superb."
