Shrewsbury Town 2-0 Blackpool

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro hit his first two goals of the season as Shrewsbury Town beat Blackpool to earn their first home points of the season in League One.

The hosts, who had lost their four opening League One matches at home, came close when away goalkeeper Colin Doyle denied Tyrone Barnett's strike.

Blackpool struggled to create, finally falling behind when Larnell Cole set up Akpa Akpro to drill home on 73 minutes.

Five minutes later, Cole then set up Akpa Akpro to lift it over Doyle.

Blackpool's sixth defeat in nine games leaves them rooted to the bottom of the third tier, while Shrewsbury climb up to 16th.

Shrewsbury goalkeeper Mark Halstead made his first league start against his former club, 15 months after his arrival, following the late withdrawal of Jayson Leutwiler with a back injury.

Shrewsbury manager Micky Mellon told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"It feels great to finally win at home and get it off our back. You could see it was building - and the chances kept coming, but you could see the relief when that goal came.

"It was nervy at times, but it seemed like two different games once we had scored. It lifted the players immensely. Hopefully we can bounce along and continue to impress.

"The fans come here to see goals, and I want us to score goals. I've never said that the first thing on my mind is to keep a clean sheet."
