David McDaid scored two for Cliftonville

David McDaid was on target twice as Cliftonville beat Ballinamallard United 3-1 to extend their unbeaten league run to 10 games and remain in second place.

Chris Curran's shot cannoned off the unfortunate Colm McLaughlin for a 53rd-minute own goal and McDaid met a Tomas Cosgrove cross to make it 2-0 on 59.

McDaid tucked the ball into the bottom corner for his second after 67.

James McKenna pulled one back on 71 when he headed in after goalkeeper Conor Devlin misjudged a cross.

The Reds enjoyed most of the possession in the first half but they found their opponents resolute in defence.

After 15 minutes, Devlin saved a Liam Martin penalty after he had been brought down in the area by Jaimie McGovern, while Michael McCrudden fired the resulting loose ball over the bar.

Ryan Campbell shot wide and, for the hosts, Martin Donnelly had an attempt saved by the legs of Alvin Rouse and Jude Winchester hesitated in front of goal before having an effort blocked.

After the home side took the lead, Martin almost equalised, then McDaid's double made the points safe, before McKenna's late consolation.
