Leyton Orient 3-2 Portsmouth

Leyton Orient moved up to ninth in the League Two table with victory over fourth-placed Portsmouth.

Pompey went ahead from Gareth Evans' close-range finish, before Adam Webster was sent off for fouling Jobi McAnuff and Jay Simpson levelled from the spot.

Ollie Palmer nodded the hosts ahead at half-time but Mathieu Baudry saw red for lashing out at Kyle Bennett.

Palmer headed in his second for Orient, before Evans ran through the home side's defence to score a consolation.

Leyton Orient assistant manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio London:

"It was a terrific performance from the boys, they had to dig in very deep against a fantastic side.

Hessenthaler on Orient v Portsmouth

"Fair play to the players, they dug in, showed a lot of character and we got a result in the end.

"I'm really pleased for Ollie Palmer because he works very hard on the training ground day in, day out and hopefully this is the start for him because for all the work he does he just couldn't hit the back of the net."

Cook on Leyton Orient v Portsmouth

Portsmouth manager Paul Cook speaks to BBC Radio Solent:

"It was very poor. If we give goals away like we do, how we can end up with 10 men like we do and how we can end up chasing the game like we do? The lads need to learn.

"We carry a bit of a pedigree in this division and rightly so, the travel and support we get is amazing and we have a duty to do the right things properly.

"Whether it is a red card or not, we're not going to change it. You know you can't get involved in stuff like that, but we've got to be better than that. We haven't got that ruthless streak in us yet.

"At Northampton we got a late goal and everyone's happy, but we were wobbling at the time. Today we have wobbled a little bit and we've given someone a flash of light. You can't do that.

"When we get beat, we will always get beat having a go. You know we will be involved in entertaining games, I certainly felt it was an entertaining game."
