Scotland goalkeeper Gemma Fay has left Celtic to sign for Scottish champions Glasgow City.

The 34-year-old captains the national side and is the record cap-holder with 188 appearances.

City were looking for cover in goal following the departures of Lee Alexander and Megan Cunningham.

"In Gemma we not only have Scotland's number one but a player with fantastic experience and a brilliant football mentality," said manager Scott Booth.

Perth-born Fay, who had two spells at Hibernian either side of a stint with Leeds, joined Celtic in 2009.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of defending the League, Scottish and League Cup titles in an ever-increasing competitive environment," said Fay.

"The chance to play Champions League once again is something that would excite any player. I'm looking forward to getting started."

Fay will be teaming up with fellow experienced internationals Leanne Ross, Jo Love, Hayley Lauder and Julie Fleeting, who have all agreed new deals this week.
