Shrewsbury Town 2-1 Coventry City

Shrewsbury stretched their unbeaten League One run to six games as they came from behind to beat Coventry City and ease their relegation fears.

Aaron Martin put Coventry one up inside four minutes after keeper Mark Halstead could only parry John Fleck's strike.

Sullay Kaikai quickly levelled from fellow loanee Larnell Cole's pass.

But Shaun Whalley's headed 39th-minute winner handed Tony Mowbray's City their fourth straight defeat to leave them three points adrift of the play-offs.

Whalley's third goal in as many games helped Shrewsbury to a third straight win, leaving Micky Mellon's side now eight points above the relegation zone.

On-loan Crystal Palace forward Kaikai struck his first goal for the Town since returning to the club for his second loan spell, taking his tally to six goals in 16 league appearances.

Shrewsbury assistant manager Mike Jackson told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"We saw Sullay Kakikai do that when he first came. That's why we've brought him back. At this time of the season he can always score. His movement's good and he looked quite fit considering he's not played a lot of games.

"They started brighter and caught us a little bit on the hop. They caused us a few problems with their pace. But we started to get to grips with it.

"After that, we got a goal back at the right time and went on from there. It's a great performance and great work levels considering it's our fourth game in 11 days."

Sky Blues boss Tony Mowbray told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:

"This isn't the biggest challenge I've faced. I've been in similar spells like this and it is difficult to turn things around when it feels like it is going against you, but we just have to keep going.

"It feels like a kick in the teeth. There were signs that the side were back to where we're meant to be, particularly in the first half. We played really well going forward and created plenty of chances which we should have taken.

"But the defending just wasn't up to scratch. I don't like criticising my players but it wasn't what we expect. It has to be better. We can't keep losing goals from simple balls into our box."
