Bradford City 1-0 Scunthorpe United

Steve Davies has scored five goals for Bradford City this season

Steve Davies scored a second-half winner for Bradford City as they boosted their League One play-off hopes with victory against Scunthorpe.

Paddy Madden tested Bradford keeper Ben Williams with an early shot, while skipper Stephen Darby blocked efforts by Hakeeb Adelakun and Madden.

Davies sealed the Bantams' third 1-0 win in eight days when he turned after James Hanson's headed on a long throw.

Tony McMahon could have added a second, but shot wide from Hanson's pass.

The result enabled Bradford to leapfrog Millwall into fifth in the League One table and move five points clear of seventh-placed Barnsley, who have a game in hand, while Scunthorpe slipped two places to 12th.

Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander told BBC Radio Humberside:

Graham Alexander: Scunthorpe boss on defeat by Bradford

"We need to win the majority of our games from now to the end of the season to even have an outside chance (of the play-offs).

"We've just spoken about making sure we commit to the games from now to the end of the season which we have done so far.

"You can't question the players commitment to that game. It was all in and there's a lot of tired bodies in there and unfortunately we were just on the wrong end of a set-piece."
