Doncaster Rovers 3-1 Wigan Athletic

Andy Williams
Andy Williams' penalty was his 15th goal this season

Doncaster Rovers came from behind to end a 17-match winless run with victory over League One leaders Wigan Athletic.

The Latics were on track to extend their 20-match unbeaten streak when Will Grigg headed in before half-time.

Andy Butler headed in James Coppinger's corner to level, and Butler then fired in a second shortly after.

Wigan midfielder David Perkins was sent off after bringing down Gary McSheffrey in the box late on, and Andy Williams converted the penalty to seal the win.

The result means Rovers are six points adrift of safety with four games left to play, while Wigan are now only three points clear at the top.

Wigan Athletic manager Gary Caldwell told BBC Radio Manchester:

Caldwell on Doncaster v Wigan

"It was a poor performance at a time when we didn't need it. We got what we deserved, Doncaster were the better team for the whole 90 minutes.

"We were still in the game at 2-1, but that red card all but ended the game.

"We didn't get going at all today. Overall it was a flat display from most of my players.

"It's in our hands. We're in a fantastic position, there's four games to go and we're well capable of winning them all. This is a bad day that hopefully gives us a wake up call."
