Long-serving defender Adam Yates has agreed a new one-year contract with Port Vale, BBC Radio Stoke reports.

The 33-year-old full-back has been at Vale Park since June 2009 and has made 246 appearances for the League One club since arriving from Morecambe.

Yates, whose previous 12-month deal was due to expire, lost his number two shirt at the start of last season and only played 15 times for Vale.

The club are still looking for a new manager after Rob Page's departure.

Before Page left to take charge at Northampton Town - where Yates had a short loan spell last term - he offered 13 out-of-contract players new deals at Vale Park.

A number have rejected the chance to stay, including defender Ryan McGivern, midfielder Louis Dodds and striker AJ Leitch-Smith who have all joined up-for-sale Vale's League One rivals Shrewsbury Town.
