Ben Gerring has been sent off in two of his six games this season

Torquay United centre-back Ben Gerring has had his suspension for his sending off at Gateshead extended to six games.

The 25-year-old has been found to have used an offensive gesture whilst leaving the field after his red card in the National League game on 1 October.

Gerring was already serving to a four-match suspension as the straight red he was shown was his second sending off of the season.

He will now also miss the games with Eastleigh and Southport.

Gerring will not be eligible to play until the start of November, which could be in the first round of the FA Cup, should the Gulls beat Woking in their fourth qualifying round tie on Saturday.

"It's unfortunate and it's an experience he's got to learn from" player-manager Kevin Nicholson told the club website.

"It now gives him the best part of three or four weeks to put some serious work in on his fitness and make sure that when he is back and available for selection, he's giving me a headache."
