Guernsey FC's record goalscorer Ross Allen found the net in his final home match before leaving the island to go travelling, as the Green Lions beat Chipstead 2-0 in the Isthmian League.

Allen's 73rd minute strike added to Marc McGrath's opener after the start of the second half.

"It was a great night to sign off," said Allen, who has scored 225 goals in 211 games for Guernsey FC.

"I'm going to miss it incredibly," he added to BBC Radio Guernsey.

Allen is leaving the island to travel around Asia, Australia and North America, and is due to return to Guernsey in March.

"Mentally and physically it will be a good rest and a chance for me to recharge the batteries, come back stronger and hopefully have another four or five years of Guernsey FC football," added Allen.

"I hope to keep up my fitness a bit while I'm away and push that towards March when I'm scheduled to come back, and have a good push for the last couple of months of the season going into the Muratti and Island Games."

Allen, who play his last game at Whyteleafe on Saturday, received a standing ovation from the Guernsey crowd.

"He's put his life on hold for six years and it was poignant that he got the applause he got," said manager Tony Vance.

"He deserved it for what he's given this football club, but he'll be back, there's no doubt about that - he's only going on an extended holiday.

"A few of the lads were giving him some stick saying that they're going to go on holiday as well and see if they get a clap like that, but fair play to him and we'll look forward to him coming back."
