Wigan Athletic winger Danny O'Brien has rejoined National League side Chester on loan until the end of the campaign.

O'Brien, 20, played nine games on loan with Chester during the second half of last season, his only goal coming on his debut in a 3-0 win over Altrincham.

"We're delighted that Danny wanted to return," said boss Jon McCarthy. "He'll increase competition within the squad."

Chester have also revealed that they rejected bids for defender Sam Hughes, 19, and striker James Alabi, 22.

"We can confirm that we rejected a significant offer from a Championship club for the services of Sam Hughes," said chief executive Mark Maguire.

"We also rejected an offer from a League Two club for our top scorer James Alabi.

"It is important we protect Chester Football Club in standing by our valuations of players. From as far back as October, we had put in place all of the information required to make an informed decision on any bids that we received."
