Nottingham Forest 2-3 Brentford

Lasse Vibe
Opening goalscorer Lasse Vibe enjoyed a successful spell at IKF Gothenburg prior to joining Brentford in July 2015

Lasse Vibe scored twice as Brentford won at Nottingham Forest for the third consecutive season in the Championship.

Home keeper Jordan Smith had already saved well from Vibe before the Dane hammered a clinical finish just inside the far post from a tight angle.

Vibe lifted over Smith to double the Bees' lead before Jota cut inside onto his left foot to drill in a third.

Forest fought hard late on, but goals from substitutes Ben Brereton and Zach Clough proved to be in vain.

The Reds, who have not beaten Brentford in six attempts dating back to April 2007, are now only five points above the relegation zone in 18th, while Brentford's victory extends their run to four games unbeaten.

The home side had hoped to start quickly after Saturday's win over automatic promotion chasers Brighton, but would have been a goal down in just the second minute had it not been for Smith's full stretch stop to keep out Vibe's left-foot shot.

But after Daniel Bentley pushed away Britt Assombalonga's effort, the Bees keeper initiated a move just after the half hour mark that saw Vibe collect Jota's reverse pass and coolly power the visitors ahead.

Dean Smith's team took further control when Vibe took his tally to seven in his last 10 games in all competitions, converting Sergi Canos' centre, and Jota's slick finish eventually proved decisive in clinching a sixth away win of the season.

As the Reds rallied, Brereton was in the right place to score after Bentley could not hold Eric Lichaj's drive, and Clough then turned in Ben Osborn's flick to reduce the deficit to one, but it was too little, too late.

Brentford manager Dean Smith: "Breaking at pace is what we have become known for, but some of our football was very good as well.

"We knew there was quality in the Forest team, after their 3-0 win over Brighton, but we have great belief in ourselves.

"Conceding the two goals at the end takes the gloss off it, but it's a win and that's what is important. I am really proud of the lads because they went out there and performed, which is hard to do it in this league."

Forest caretaker manager Gary Brazil: "On the back a very good performance on Saturday, this was very disappointing. As much as I said I wasn't surprised by the result and performance at the weekend, I am surprised by that.

"We had a game plan, but no energy. They are a good side and if you give them room, they can play, like they showed tonight.

"The goals we were really disappointing to concede - both goals in the second half came from our attacks on the edge of their box. That's not what I expect from players at this level and there are no excuses."
