Maidstone United 0-1 Tranmere Rovers

Under-strength Tranmere warmed up for their Vanarama National League play-off semi-final against Aldershot with a battling 1-0 win at Maidstone.

Nine players were making their first starts for a Rovers side which had an average age of just 19 years, but they won the game with a 56th-minute goal from youngster Sam Ilesanmi.

Maidstone started the game strongly, forcing six corners inside the opening quarter of an hour, but failed to make their early pressure tell in front of goal.

Tranmere's Luke Pilling was the busier of the two goalkeepers, denying both Stuart Lewis and Yemi Odubade in the first half and denying Alex Flisher twice after the break.

Flisher nearly put the Stones in front with a second-half header which cleared the bar, but moments later the home side failed to clear a great run and cross down the right by Tranmere skipper Adam Mekki and Ilesanmi took advantage to score what turned out to be the winner with a cool finish.
