Former Southport manager and Liverpool captain Mark Wright has been appointed as Southport's head of development.

Wright, 53, managed Southport for nearly two years in the National League, taking them from the relegation zone to fourth place, and left in 2001.

As part of Wright's new role he will assist in assembling the squad and contribute towards the club's community and commercial initiatives.

Wright will announce his management team later this week.
