Hartlepool United 1-1 Chester

Hartlepool are still searching for their first National League win of the season despite Jake Cassidy's second-half equaliser against Chester.

City made the perfect start when they took the lead in the first minute. Scott Harrison slipped, allowing Ross Hannah to break forward, and James Akintunde was on hand to tuck the ball home after Scott Loach could not hang on to Hannah's shot.

Chester thought they had a second after 14 minutes when Hannah spun and fired an effort into the roof of the net, but the flag was up for offside.

Nicky Deverdics' header then come back off the bar before, moments later, he had another effort come back off the woodwork when his half-volley bounced off the underside of the bar.

It looked like it was not going to be Hartlepool's night when they hit the woodwork for a third time, Carl Magnay's volley from outside the box again coming back off the bar.

But Pools finally managed to find the net after 71 minutes when Cassidy beat on-loan goalkeeper Conor Mitchell to a high ball into the box to head home.

Chester have now drawn all their first three National League games of the season, to stand 17th in the table, two places above Hartlepool, who have picked up two points from their opening four matches.
