Down clinched their fourth All-Ireland Junior Camogie title after a strong closing quarter helped them edge out Laois 1-12 to 1-8 at Croke Park.

The win was redemption for a Down side beaten in the 2011 and 2012 finals.

A Niamh Dollard goal helped Laois lead 1-3 to 0-4 but Catherine McGourty responded with an immediate Down goal which put them a point up at the break.

Laois moved three ahead early in the second half but failed to score again as Down hit seven unanswered points.

Down's late scoring burst was started by points from McGourty and skipper Niamh Mallon with Karen Gribben, Karen McMullan and Aimee McAleenan also among the Mourne scorers in the final quarter.

While it was a case of third time lucky for Down, Laois were suffering a second straight defeat in the junior decider.

The O'Moore County suffered an early blow in Sunday's final when midfielder Sile Burke was forced out of the game by a knee injury.
