Fifteen of Scotland's Commonwealth Games medallists will take part in the Ryder Cup opening ceremony.

Eilidh Child, who took silver in the 400m hurdles at Glasgow 2014, and 200m breaststroke gold medallist Ross Murdoch are among the 15 medallists involved in the event at Gleneagles.

Judoka Euan Barton and boxer Charlie Flynn will also take part.

The athletes will be on stage at the start of the ceremony to talk about their experiences at Glasgow 2014.

They were invited to the event on Thursday at Gleneagles by Ryder Cup organisers the European Tour.

And it is hoped they will help inspire Team Europe to victory over their American rivals.

"The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow were absolutely amazing," said Child.

"To hear the 'Hampden roar' for Team Scotland was incredible and it undoubtedly spurred us on to some great individual and collective team performances.

"I am sure the knowledgeable Scottish golfing crowds here at Gleneagles will cheer Team Europe all the way round the course and give them that extra edge."
