Michael Hoey missed the cut by one shot at the Alfred Dunhill Championships in South Africa after a second round of one-over-par 73 left him on level par.

The Northern Ireland player carded three birdies and four bogeys to lie in a tie for 76th position at Malelane.

South African Branden Grace leads on 16 under, with Francesco Molinari 11 under and Tjaart van der Walt on 10 under.

Kevin Phelan made the cut on one under but Damien McGrane on level par and Peter Lawrie on two over missed out.

Hoey had been aiming to make a good start to the 2015 European Tour at Leopard Creek, having finished 57th in the 2014 Race to Dubai standings with earnings of £676,775.
