South Korean rookie Kim Sei-Young birdied two of her final three holes to extend her lead to three shots before the final round of the ANA Inspiration event in Mission Hills.

Kim, 22, managed a three-under 69 for a 10-under total in the first women's major of the season in California.

Her nearest challenger is two-time major winner Stacy Lewis, who shot 68.

Scot Catriona Matthew, who had been well placed after the second round, dropped out of contention with a 74.

Northern Ireland's Stephanie Meadow is alongside Matthew on two under par after a third-round 70, one stroke ahead of England's Charley Hull (73).

Former winners Morgan Pressel and Brittany Lincicome are one shot behind Lewis on six under, along with Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn, whose older sister Moriya is on five under.

Kim is seeking her second career victory on the LPGA Tour after triumphing in the second event of this season in the Bahamas in February.

"If I were to win it tomorrow it would be the biggest dream ever to come true for me," she said.

"I've watched this tournament since I was young. That's why I feel I want it so much more. I think the opportunity is there in front of me."
