McIlroy disappointed by Irish Open exit

Rory McIlroy is unable to recover from his dismal opening 80 as he misses the cut at the Irish Open by four shots after a second-round 71 at Royal County Down.

"I'm very disappointed. It was one of the weeks of the year that I had earmarked that I wanted to do well in," said world number one McIlroy, who was suffering his third straight Irish Open missed cut.

McIlroy, 26, refused to blame his tournament host duties as a reason for his early exit.

"If anything it has fallen at a bad time as my fifth tournament in a row. In an ideal world I would have come in here with a bit different preparation," said the world number one.
