Rory McIlroy reflects on a "frustrating" day on the controversial Chambers Bay greens after an opening two-over-par 72 leaves him seven shots behind the US Open leaders.
McIlroy failed to make the most of good approach play to greens he described as "not the best I've ever putted on".
The Northern Irishman said: "I felt like I gave myself enough chances to convert a few but I wasn't able to do that and missed a couple of short putts over the last few holes."
Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson lead after opening rounds of 65 with Tiger Woods 15 shots off the pace after a 10-over-par 80.
