Michael Hoey is six shots off the pace at the Russian Open in Moscow after carding a level-par 71 in Thursday's first round.

The Belfast player started at the 10th and picked up birdies at 14 and 16 before dropping shots at four and five.

Niall Kearney and Damien McGrane opened with 70s with Peter Lawrie level and Brian Casey one over.

Scotland's Scott Jamieson and Daniel Gaunt of Australia are one stroke clear of the field.
