Irish Open gets 'exciting' July slot

The new calendar slot for the Irish Open is an exciting development for the world's top players, according to the head of the European Tour.

The Irish tournament will take place at Portstewart on 6-9 July, one week before the Scottish Open and two before The Open at Royal Birkdale.

"We know you have a better chance at The Open Championship if you have played on a links course a week or two before," said the Tour's chief executive Keith Pellie.
