Fox warms up for Rio by winning NI Open

New Zealander Ryan Fox, son of All Blacks rugby great Grant Fox, fires a closing nine-under-par 62 to win the Northern Ireland Open at Galgorm Castle.

Fox, three off the pace entering the final day, finished four ahead of overnight leader South African Dylan Frittelli, Englishman Max Orrin plus German pair Dominic Foos and Bernd Ritthammer.

Tournament ambassador Michael Hoey showed improved form after a difficult year on the European Tour as he finished eighth in the Challenge Tour event, six behind Fox.

The Kiwi's victory moves him to second place in the Challenge Tour rankings and on course to earn one of the main tour cards available for next season from the top 15 finishers on the second-tier tour.
