Racing authorities amend whip rule

British Horseracing Authority officials tell BBC Sport's Joe Wilson that they have agreed to amend controversial new regulations after extensive consultation with all stakeholders in the sport, including jockeys.

Riders must keep to tight limits on the number of times they strike a horse (seven in Flat races, eight over jumps) but they will now be able to use that allocation at any point in the race.

The BHA says the new rules and penalties are "fair to the jockeys" and claim many senior pros are keen to get involved in training young jockeys.
