Botany Bay, trained by Charles O'Brien and ridden by Niall McCullagh, won the Ulster Derby at Down Royal on Saturday.

The 7-1 shot came on strongly in the closing stages to win from favourite and top weight Fields of Athenry (7-4), trained by Aidan O'Brien.

Brightly Shining (16-1) was third in the £71,500 premier handicap race.

"The horse only got going in the last 100 yards. I always had great faith in him. He has grown up and matured this year," said winning trainer O'Brien.
