BBC Sport - Richard Johnson: National Hunt jockey's title 'mine to lose now'

Title mine to lose now - Johnson

Richard Johnson, for so long runner-up to champion National Hunt jockey AP McCoy, believes he just needs "a bit of luck" to win the title.

After 16 years of finishing second to 20-times champion McCoy, Johnson led by 43 winners going into Tuesday's racing - and he is well on course to reach 200 winners for the first time if he stays fit.

"Fingers crossed, with a bit of luck on my side, it's probably mine to lose now, rather than mine to win," he said.

Halfway through the 2015-16 season, Johnson holds a very healthy lead over nearest challenger Aidan Coleman, having already recorded his fastest-ever century of winners for the season by mid-October.

BBC Midlands Today's Dan Pallett went to meet 38-year-old Herefordshire-based Johnson at Kerry Lee's stables, near Presteigne.
