Trainer Tommy Stack - who won the 1994 1,000 Guineas with Las Meninas - is to retire at the end of this year.

Stack, who will be 71 in November, is also well known for riding Red Rum to his third Grand National victory in 1977.

His son, Fozzy, will take over the licence at his Thomastown Castle base in County Tipperary.

Stack said: "I must thank our owners. I have absolutely no doubt that many great days lie ahead for Fozzy."
