Third Intention wins Old Roan Chase at Aintree

Third Intention
The race was Third Intention's first start since April

Third Intention recorded his first big-race victory as he secured the Monet's Garden Old Roan Chase at Aintree.

The Colin Tizzard-trained nine-year-old had won just three of his previous 28 starts over fences

Sent off at 5-1, he was given a patient ride by Aidan Coleman and remained towards the rear before throwing down a challenge on a run to the last.

God's Own finished powerfully from the final fence to finish a length-and-three-quarters behind Third Intention.

Vibrato Valtat, who had briefly looked to have cut loose when striking on between the final two fences, was third.
