The Belfast Giants recovered from their Elite League defeat at the hands of Cardiff Devils on Saturday night by beating Edinburgh Capitals 8-2 in their Challenge Cup Group A game on Sunday.

The Giants had already qualified for the semi-finals, along with Braehead.

Craig Peacock scored two goals in the first period and completed his hat-trick in the second period.

Benoit Doucet also got on the scoresheet, with Robert Dowd (2) and Mark Garside scoring in the third.

Sean Menton and Marcis Zembergs were the scorers for Edinburgh in the second period.

Also on Sunday night, Nottingham Panthers cut the Giants' lead at the top of the Elite League to two points as they defeated Fife Flyers convincingly.

Next weekend the Giants have two Elite League games in Scotland, one against Fife and the other against Dundee.
