The Belfast Giants maintained their eight-point advantage at the top of the Elite League with a 6-1 win over Braehead Clan at the Odyssey Arena.

Robert Dowd, Ryan Crane, Paul Deniset and Craig Peacock all scored goals in the first period.

Jeff Mason found the net in the second period, with Jade Galbraith on target for the visitors.

Dowd scored his second goal of the game in the third period to complete a convincing victory for the Giants.

The Giants had beaten nearest challengers Sheffield in a shootout on Friday night.

Dowd put the Giants ahead late in the first period but Jason Hewitt levelled before Jon Pelle restored the lead for the visitors.

Lee Esders equalised for the Steelers with just four minutes left.

The game went to a shoot-out and Craig Peacock scored the winner while Stephen Murphy made three saves for Belfast.
