Belfast Giants 5-0 Dundee Stars

Doug Christiansen with the Elite League trophy

Belfast Giants look to be on their way to next weekend's play-offs finals in Nottingham after hammering Dundee 5-0 at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday night.

This season's Elite League champions face Dundee in Sunday's return leg in Scotland but Doug Christiansen's Giants appear to have the tie in the bag.

Jeff Mason scored Belfast's only first-period goal on Saturday.

Further goals followed from Craig Peacock, Robert Dowd, Jon Pelle and Mike Hoffman.

Sunday's game will start at the Dundee Ice Arena at 18:30 BST.

Despite winning three league titles and two play-off triumphs in their 11-year history, the Giants have never managed to win both competitions in the same season.

The four quarter-finals winners from this weekend's ties will go through to the final four in Nottingham.
