Coventry Blaze upset the odds to beat Elite League champions Sheffield Steelers 4-2 in the play-off final.

Blaze, who finished sixth in the league and last lifted the trophy in 2005, took an early lead through Steve Goertzen against his former club.

But they took control with three goals in the second period through Jereme Tendler, Ross Venus and Ashley Tait.

Sheffield hit back in the final period as Mathieu Roy scored twice but Coventry held on for victory.

"It's fantastic, I couldn't be happier for the boys," Coventry coach Chuck Weber told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire.

"All credit to Sheffield because they pushed us all the way in the end."

Earlier on Sunday, Belfast Giants beat Hull Stingrays 8-6 in the third versus fourth play-off.
