Canadian forward James Desmarais signs for Belfast Giants
Canadian forward James Desmarais has been announced as the Belfast Giants' latest signing for the 2015-16 Elite League season.
Desmarais has spent the past nine consecutive seasons with EHC Visp in the National League B in Switzerland.
The 36-year-old centreman finished the 2014-15 campaign as top scorer with 68 points in 48 games.
Desmarais was voted the NLB's Most Valuable Player in 2012-13, then helped EHC Visp to the 2013-14 championship.
The Montreal-born player scored 29 points in 23 play-off games in that championship-winning season.
"He's played in a great league in Switzerland, where there is a lot of pressure and he has led the league in scoring on multiple seasons including last season. He can create offence, he is extremely gifted on the powerplay and he's proven," said Giants coach Steve Thornton.
The news of the acquisition of Desmarais comes a day after the Giants confirmed that they had captured Mike Forney, last year's Elite League top scorer, from the Sheffield Steelers.
