Head coach Paul Thompson says Jesse Schultz will make Sheffield Steelers "better as a group"

Sheffield Steelers have signed Canadian right-winger Jesse Schultz for the 2016-17 season.

Schultz, 33, has appeared in 375 American League games and made two appearances for Vancouver Canucks in the NHL.

He spent last season at German side SC Riessersee, making 52 appearances.

"Jesse ticked a lot of the boxes that I thought we needed and I am excited about him being here," head coach Paul Thompson told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"Jesse had bigger offers at other clubs in Europe and the UK but he wanted to come to a team that he felt had the chance to win every day.

"He is an offensive player who works hard and skates well who will make us a better group, and we have a very good group at the moment."
