'Our fans have not complained'

Football

BBC Radio 5 Live

Rasmus Ankersen, the chairman of Midtjylland has been speaking to BBC Radio 5 live about the ticket prices for Thursday's Europa League tie against Manchester United.

The Danish club have been selling tickets for the match for £71 and United fans are planning to protest.

Southampton supporters were charged £22 to attend a Europa League play-off match at the same venue in August.

Ankersen said: “We are charging the same amount for Danish fans as Man United fans. It’s a big game for us with a lot of demand so we feel it’s important we capitalise on that.

“Our fans have not complained about it. I understand the frustrations of the Man United fans but we have to try to make everyone happy.

“It’s a lot of money but people here think this is a once in a lifetime experience”

Rooney injury

Football

We have a bit more on that Wayne Rooney injury that has sidelined the striker for six weeks.

The England captain suffered the injury during Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Sunderland and played on, according to manager Louis van Gaal.

He said: "That's typical Wayne. He's a guy who wants to go until the end and if he's feeling a pain he doesn't want to go off. He wants to win. "That's a fantastic attitude but sometimes it's also bad for his body.

"But you cannot say (if he made the injury worse by staying on) because he didn't know when (exactly) it happened. That's the difficulty."

The 17-year-old midfielder has signed a four-year contract with the Scottish champions, which begins in June, after flying in from Norway to tie up a move from IK Start.

'It's a fair price'

FC Midtjylland v Manchester United (Thurs, 18:00 GMT)

FC Midtjylland insist the price of tickets for tomorrow's Europa League clash with Manchester United is "fair".

Fans are being charged £71 each to watch the last-32 first leg - despite Southampton fans being charged just £22 when their team played the Danish champions at the same venue in August.

"I think this is probably the biggest game in the history of this club and I am very satisfied the club have decided to play here - we could have moved the game to a bigger stadium to get more spectators and maybe earn some more money, but we decided to play here," said Midtjylland boss Jess Thorup.

"I haven't heard a lot from our own fans about the price. Although I hear everyone is paying the same price, I think it is maybe a fair price."

There could be repercussions from this one.

A Russian footballer taunted Turkish fans by pulling off his shirt to reveal a picture of President Putin after a match in Istanbul.

Lokomotiv Moscow midfielder Dmitri Tarasov's vest showed Mr Putin in a navy cap along with the words "the most polite president".

The incident happened during the politically-charged Europa League match between Lokomotiv and Fenerbahce, which was the biggest sporting encounter between the nations since Turkey shot down a Russian jet in November.

“There’s six in there, maybe seven, and we need to finish top of that league of six teams,” Martin said.

“We’ve got to play three of those teams so it’s in our hands, we’ve got 12 games to do it and we have to do it, it’s as simple as that.

“A lot of us have been through this before, I don’t think this is any time to panic and get tense.”

The 33-year-old was sent off for a high challenge on Stanley defender Matty Pearson in Tuesday's 1-1 draw.

The club will appeal against the dismissal - the third-fastest sending-off from kick-off in league history.

"The worst thing he came up with was a twisted sock," Curle told BBC Radio Cumbria.
