Leicester 'better off finishing second'

Football

BBC Radio 5 Live

Leicester City's finances could be even stronger if they don't win the Premier League according to Kieran Maguire, a specialist in sports finance from Liverpool University.

Finishing second would mean they wouldn't pay out as much in bonuses to the manager and players, but they would still cash in on being in the Champions League next season.

That's not how fitba works though, is it?

Stoke v Sunderland (Sat, 15:00 BST)

With Roberto Martinez's job at Everton under scrutiny, Stoke boss Mark Hughes has been linked with the job.

"Its just speculation and I don't encourage that," says Hughes. "The talk about jobs, I've had that against me before I didn't like it so I wouldn't want to comment and encourage that sort of speculation against someone who is in the job already."

And that's your lot from Sparky.

Stoke news conference

Stoke v Sunderland (Sat, 15:00 BST)

Stoke have lost their last three league games against Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool conceding four goals in each.

"We don't like how goals are coming too easy for the opposition and we really need to address that. That's the expectation," says boss Mark Hughes.

"They've trained really well this week and I am sure we will have a marked improvement in terms of defensive know how."

Stoke news conference

Stoke v Sunderland (Sat, 15:00 BST)

Stoke boss Mark Hughes begins by saying he doesn't want to talk about injuries, but goes on to talk about injuries...

"I'm not one to hide behind injuries but the reality is that we've not been able to enjoy our best form because key players in the squad haven't been available," says Hughes.

"It has had an impact, everyone can see that, but for the last three games we've been disappointed. The margins of defeat we've been exposed to need to be addressed."

Southampton v Man City (Sun, 16:30 BST)

With the season coming towards a close, the managerial merry-go-round will be in full swing. Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has been linked with Arsenal job and, most recently, Everton.

The Dutchman is asked if he will still be with the Saints next season?

"Yes, of course. I have one year left on my contract," he says. "I don't like to talk about individual clubs because everybody has ambition and I have that too.

"The club has spoken to me about planning for the next five years. We will get time to speak about a new contract at the end of the season."

Southampton lost 3-1 to Manchester City earlier on this season and have struggled against Manuel Pellegrini's side in recent times.

Southampton have an outside chance of reaching the Europa League spots, if results go their way. They are eighth in the table, five points behind Manchester United in fifth.

"If we finish in a good way, then we can be proud again," says manager Ronald Koeman. "We have had some good football and good wins; maybe we have lost too many points at home."
