Kickboxing champ protects Slovakian team

Euro 2016

BBC Monitoring

The head of security for the Slovakian national team, Peter Hiznay, is on “non-stop alert” to keep the Slovakian entourage safe during the tournament, according to Slovak tabloid Novy Cas.

Former Slovak kickboxing champion Hiznay says each member of his security team is “dedicated to martial arts” and has insisted that every player records when they leave the team hotel and says where they are going.

Hiznay isn’t distracted by events on the pitch however: “You will not believe it but I’m not interested in football,” he says. “In my life I’ve seen eight games. My job is to remain in the bowels of the stadium and to be on alert if something occurs.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been named in Sweden’s provisional 35-man Olympic squad.

Ibrahimovic, 34, is currently on Euro 2016 duty and has said he won’t make a decision on his participation until after that competition is over.

Coach Håkan Ericson is not confident Ibrahimovic will be present in Rio.

"He has said he wants to wait for make his decision until after the European Championships,” he said. There is a little gap and I want to keep it open because it would be fantastic, although my hopes are not huge.”

It is widely expected Ibrahimovic will join Manchester United once the European Championships are over.

Sweden have been drawn against Colombia, Nigeria and Japan at the Olympics. They will select their final 18-man squad next month and play Colombia in their first game on 4 August.

United play Leicester in the Community Shield at Wembley on 7 August and open their Premier League campaign at Bournemouth on 13 August.

'Ronaldo is a sore loser'

Euro 2016

Earlier we told you how Cristiano Ronaldo threw his toys out of the pram after Portugal's 1-1 draw with Iceland.

He criticised Iceland's lack of ambition and refused to shake the hands of the Iceland players.

Former Charlton and Iceland defender Hermann Hreidarsson has hit back at Ronaldo.

“It's petty in a way," he told Radio 5 live. "He's a sore loser obviously."

"He thought he could have goals handed to him on a plate or he didn't have to work for it.

"If he would have worked as hard as every Icelandic player he wouldn't have had to say anything because I'm sure he would have got his rewards. He didn't fancy it on the day and he just got beaten up."
