Djokovic and Bedene level in Rome

Bedene 3-4 Djokovic

Djokovic is being made to work for this.

Bedene holds his serve to make it 3-3, then pushes the world number two to deuce.

The Serbian capitalises on an unforced error from Aljaz Bedene - who sends his forehand long - to take a slight lead.

But Bedene is not going away. He sees off a service game to love.

This looks like it could be a tight one.

Newcastle back row Mark Wilson and Exeter wing Olly Woodburn complete the six-man shortlist.

Van Dijk heads list of Chelsea targets

Virgil van Dijk

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk is a man in demand.

The 25-year-old Netherlands international has been heavily linked with a move to either Manchester City or Liverpool and now it seems champions Chelsea have come to the party.

The Independent says that Antonio Conte has identified Van Dijk as the man to strengthen his defence.

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata is also mentioned as an attacking reinforcement.

Djokovic leads in Rome

*Bedene 2-3 Djokovic

Novak Djokovic, after that slightly slow start, has found his rhythm and leads 3-2.

The first two games went against serve but both players seem to have settled and it's back with serve.

Bayern 'to sue' over Kimmich report

Getty Images

There are transfer denials and there are transfer denials Bayern Munich style.

Earlier today the Stuttgarter-Zeitung newspaper claimed that 22-year-old midfielder Joshua Kimmich was going to leave Bayern Munich for either Red Bull Leipzig or Manchester City as he was dissatisfied with the amount of time he was spending on the bench with Carlo Ancelotti in charge.

Bayern Munich have been straight back at them. Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge called the report, "a monstrous lie" with a statement adding that the club was taking immediate legal action.

Djokovic breaks back

Bedene 1-1 Djokovic

But the Brit can't hold his serve.

Djokovic turns on the aggression in the second game and strikes a powerful forehand winner to break back.

Decent game so far.

Bedene breaks Djokovic

Bedene 1-0 Djokovic

And Aljaz Bedene is off to the perfect start in Rome.

He breaks Novak Djokovic in the first game of the match.

The Brit has a 100% record on break points so far - one from one - with his service game to come.

Mazzarri keeping positive

Walter Mazzarri

Manager Walter Mazzarri says he is looking to the future with Watford despite reports that he could be out of a job at Vicarage Road.

"There were some positives and some not so, but it was a good game and we are still evaluating for next season," said the 55-year-old Italian after a 4-3 defeat by Chelsea last night.

"The most positive thing is that we had 40 points with six games remaining and many injuries."

Watford are still five points short of the total amassed under Mazzarri's predecessor Quique Sanchez Flores last term.

We don't feel like champions - Zidane

Manager Zinedine Zidane says that his Real Madrid team need to keep focused on the prize as they close in on their first La Liga title since 2012.

They need four points from trips to Celta Vigo and Malaga to be sure of beating Barcelona to trophy.

"We don't feel like champions. We're not going to relax. We've not won anything yet," Zidane said.

"It'll be difficult because Celta are a good team. We know that they're a good opponent and it'll be difficult, just like it was against Sevilla and will be against Malaga."

"I can assure you we need to maintain our focus."

A massive ride from Dutch cyclist Tom Dumoulin who takes the lead in the stage 10 time trial with a time of 50 minutes and 37 seconds.

Dumoulin will take the stage win, but not only that, he moves into the overall lead and will take the pink jersey off Colombia's Nairo Quintana's back.

All does not seem well on one of the Rome Masters' second stages.

Team Sky's Geraint Thomas has set the fastest time of the day so far in the 39.8km trial from Foligno to Montefalco.

After yesterday’s second rest day, Thomas set a time of 51 minutes and 26 seconds - a leads of seven seconds over second-place Quick-Step Floors rider Bob Jungels.

179 rides have competed the individual time trial so far.

The Welshman crashed heavily on Sunday and his hopes of winning the race were dealt a huge blow when he was caught in a pile-up involving a police motorbike.

Update from Rome

Bedene v Djokovic

The game between David Goffin and Fernando Verdasco has gone to a third set, so Britain's Aljaz Bedene must wait a little longer before facing Novak Djokovic.

That one is looking like a 16:00 BST start or later.

Maria Sharapova then faces Mirjana Lucic-Baroni on the same court in the women's draw, before world number one Andy Murray takes to the stage against Fabio Fognini.

Murray will get under way around 20:00 BST.

Money has to be right to sign Sakho - Parish

mamdou Sakho

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish says that any deal to bring Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho to the club has to make financial sense.

The Reds are reportedly asking £30m for the 27-year-old centre-back who is out of favour at Anfield, but was nominated for Palace's player of the year award despite playing only eight games on loan before getting injured.

“The money needs to work for us and for Liverpool,” Parish told Holmesdale Radio via the London Evening Standard.

“I am sure there will be a negotiation. If we can make it work of course we would like to, I am not going to try and be coy about it. He is a very good player. He likes being with us and we like him. Let’s hope we can do it.

Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward says that Jose Mourinho has had a "compelling" debut season as manager during which the club has made "tremendous progress".

"We're approaching the end of a compelling season - our first with Jose Mourinho as manager and one which I believe we've made tremendous progress, both on and off the pitch," he said in a conference call to announce the club's third-quarter financial results.

"It has been an incredibly busy season, which will see us play 64 matches including an astonishing nine matches last month. This will be the second busiest season in our history.

"In the league we set a new club Premier League record with 25 matches unbeaten within a single season.

"We've won the FA Community Shield and the EFL Cup, and obviously we're delighted to have reached the final of the Europa League, where we'll face Ajax in Stockholm next Wednesday. It is the only major trophy we have never won."

As celebrations go, this has to be one of the best.

How many appearances does the bike need to be awarded a winners medal, I wonder?

Britain's Aljaz Bedene was expected to take on world number two Novak Djokovic in the second round of the Rome Masters at 13:30 BST this afternoon.

That game's now looking like it won't be on court until 15:30 BST as Belgium's David Goffin has just got under way against Spain's Fernando Verdasco.

On this day in 2013, David Beckham announced that he would retire from football at the end of the 2012-13 season.

With Chelsea captain John Terry also announcing he could retire at the end of the current season, we've been left in a reflective mood.

We've been asking you for your club legends - the men and women who embody the spirit of your club, players or otherwise.

So far we've had an Argentine prop-forward, a THFC legend forced into early retirement, King Kenny, Sir Kev, a kit man, a ticket sales assistant...and the list goes on.

Keep them coming!

Murray turns 30

A smile from Andy on his birthday.

Murray was greeted by a rather tuneful rendition of 'Happy Birthday' and a cake in his locker room yesterday as he reached the magical 30.

The world number one will be looking to avoid the birthday bumps though, as he starts the defence of his Rome Masters title against Fabio Fognini this evening (20:00 BST).

Andy Murray turned 30 yesterday and was surprised in the locker room by a cake and a song

Tomorrow, fellow Briton Johanna Konta will also be blowing out candles as she turns 26.

And the British number one gave herself an early present by progressing to the third round of the Italian Open this morning with victory over Yulia Putintseva.

Wales and England

Midfielder David Brooks has been named in England's squad for the Toulon Tournament - just minutes after withdrawing from Wales' squad.

Brooks, 19, was included in a 20-man party for Wales' first appearance in the prestigious Under-20 competition.

But the Sheffield United player's England call-up was announced 11 minutes after his Wales withdrawal.

"It's a frustrating part of the job with dual nationality players," said Wales manager Robert Page. "We'll support him in his decision."
