Celtic in Roberts pursuit

patrick Roberts

Celtic are one of 12 clubs pursuing the signature of Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts.

The 20-year-old spent 18 months on loan at Celtic Park, winning the treble last season, and is expected to leave City permanently ahead of the new season.

Nice, Porto and clubs from England and Germany are also keen on signing the England Under-20 international.

Celtic's latest offer is believed to be considerably well below City's valuation of Roberts.

'It was massive'

Sally Gunnell

British great Sally Gunnell has been reflecting on her rivalry with American Sandra Farmer-Patrick ahead of this year's World Championships in London.

Back in1993, Gunnell and Farmer-Patrick fought out one of the most thrilling finishes in the championships history as Gunnell repeated her victory from the Barcelona Olympics the year before, beating her rival by five hundredths of a second as both went well inside the world record.

"It was massive," she told BBC Sport.

"She was on my thoughts every training session. She was why I trained on Christmas Day because I thought she wouldn't be. We didn't speak very much and when we did there were arguments, she accused me of hitting her over a hurdle in 1991, it went on for years.

"The psyching out before races was completely aimed at me. In the athletes village, the call room, races before. I had to learn to accept it and it was hugely healthy in terms of pushing me on."

Maguire told the Foxes' website: "There were a number of clubs interested, but when I met the manager here, he pretty much swayed it into the direction of this club.

"Leicester are on the up and it looks very promising for the future."

The Mirror say Liverpool will have to meet an asking price of £35.5m for the 25-year-old.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino says: "This is a moment for our players to enjoy their holidays and try to recharge the batteries, but for us, we are thinking about starting the season in the best condition.

"I am always positive about the fixtures. It is true, the Premier League is a tough start but I am sure the fans will be excited for that as well."

The British top seed wins 6-4 6-1 in just an hour and 14 minutes against Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer, who is her doubles partner.

"We're adult enough to deal with it," says Konta. "We compete on court but leave the competition on the court."

Konta closes on Nottingham victory

Those fans watching in Nottingham might be experiencing a feeling of deja vu.

Johanna Konta has raced into a 4-0 lead at the start of her second set against Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer. Just like the British number one did in the opener.

Konta wins opening set

Johanna Konta at the Nottingham Open

Johanna Konta racked up her 300th Tour win earlier this week - now she is halfway to number 301.

The British number one takes the first set 6-4 against Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer - who is Konta's doubles partner - in their last-16 singles match at the Nottingham Open.

Konta had to work a little harder as the set wore on. Which is a good sign for Wickmayer and for those fans who want to see a competitive match.

Konta blowing a little cold

Johanna Konta may have only ever won one match at Wimbledon, but that hasn't stopped expectations building that the British number one can go far at SW19 this year.

Especially if the world number eight enjoys success in the warm-ups tournaments at Nottingham and Eastbourne.

Konta, who will be the first home top-10 ranked female at Wimbledon since 1984, won the first four games against her Belgian doubles partner Yanina Wickmayer but... a few errors have started to creep in.

Konta has lost the past three games as the wind starts to whip up around the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

But she is still a break up.

India face target of 265

And that interval has now begun as Bangladesh have finished their innings on 264-7. It is 53 more than England made against Pakistan yesterday but will it be enough to contain the powerful India batting line-up? We'll keep you posted for the next couple of hours and continuous commentary is on 5 live sports extra and the BBC live text, which contains in-play highlights.

Konta leading at Nottingham Open

Johanna Konta

Jo Konta is ranked 73 places higher than her Belgian opponent Yanina Wickmayer. And it is showing already in their Nottingham Open match.

The pair have only been on court for nine minutes - and Konta, the world number eight, is already 3-0 up after a double break.

This one might be over by the time you've popped to the shop, bought a sandwich and then demolished it.

Mickelson withdraws from US Open

Nottingham Open

Yesterday, Johanna Konta and Yanina Wickmayer were both stood on the same side of the net.

The British number one and her Belgian doubles partner were a team, joining forces to win their first-round match at the Nottingham Open.

Today, they are staring across the net at each other. A place in the quarter-finals of the singles draw is at stake.

Top seed Konta is looking to build momentum on grass ahead of Wimbledon after a disappointing clay-court season which saw her only win two matches.

The pair are knocking up, although there are some dark clouds gathering in the Nottingham sky.
