It has been an emotional night - for us, for the Denver Broncos, for the Carolina Panthers and for Coldplay's roadies. It was a tense defensive battle in the end and Cam Newton couldn't quite make it happen for Carolina. I'm running out of caffeine fast now so it's time to say goodbye until next season. Who will win Super Bowl 51?
- Denver win third Super Bowl; Carolina lose in final for second time
- Anderson goes through to help give Denver a 14-point cushion in the fourth quarter
- Malik Jackson scores a touchdown for Denver after a fumble
- Jonathan Stewart replies with a touchdown for Carolina
Cam Newton didn't have a game to remember... Maybe next time.
Von Miller, Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl 50: "I'm so proud of my guys. They kept pushing me. I'm very appreciative of them. I'm happy for Bronco Nation - we will celebrate this all summer."
Peyton Manning: "It's been an emotional week for everyone. This has been a tough, resilient and unselfish bunch of guys. I'm honoured and grateful to be a part of it.
"This has been a very emotional week and emotional night. I want to go and kiss my wife and kiss my kids. I'm going to drink a lot of beer tonight. I'll take some time to reflect on retirement."
The NFL Lombardi trophy is now on the way to the Denver Broncos. It's all getting very exciting. It looks so shiny.
Gillian Lathan: The best team won, congratulations Denver!
Andrew Priestley: What a fantastic Superbowl. The best, most competitive and most captivating one in years! The defence was incredible.
They've done it! A fantastic defensive performance wins it.
Denver run down the clock and Carolina can do nothing with no timeouts. Josh Norman of the Carolina Panthers congratulates Manning as he leaves the field - probably for the last time as an NFL player. Not long left now.
Anderson starts with a run for Denver which makes no gain. Could this be the last two minutes that we see Peyton Manning on an American football field? He's going to go out in style here.
"Carolina scored 580 points in the season and the play-offs! They've scored 10 tonight."
Mike Crew: That play just won Denver the Super Bowl.
AC Smith: Von Miller take a bow. Unstoppable.
Ryan Heatly: Did not see this coming, but Newton will be back. Well done Broncos.
DeMarcus Ware makes the seventh sack by the Broncos defence today on Cam Newton. He's going to hurt in the morning! It is followed up by another great play and the Panthers are back on fourth down. Game over, surely?
It's looking more likely that the AFC champions are going to seal the deal here as wide receiver Bennie Fowler catches an easy one from the legendary Peyton Manning. The Manning family rejoice in their box!
CJ Anderson drives forward and spins to score what could be a crucial touchdown. The play survives a review. Denver set to go for a two-point conversion now.
Big holding call against Carolina - Denver inching towards a touchdown here.
Huge recovery by TJ Ward after Von Miller sacked Cam Newton and he fumbles it. Shocker! What a play! Sensational stuff in California.
Denver run down a big chunk of the clock after three pretty weak running plays that have little effect. Another drive, another three-and-out. Under five minutes left - surely Carolina will get a first down?
No progress by Carolina on a third down and Denver's defence is on top yet again! This is a real defence fest of a Super Bowl! Norwood gets the ball back for Denver after the fourth-down punt and Manning returns to the field.
Two-time Super Bowl winner
"Manning is playing really poorly right now. The Denver Broncos aren’t even able to generate any type of offence. They’re allowing him to play it down the field. It’s really bad to see the Denver Broncos struggle like this with offence. They should be ahead by a lot more right now."
'We can do what you can do' - Carolina's defence steps up and Denver fail to make any progress with their drive. Who wants to win this thing? Not long left now!
Manning starts another drive with a quick 2-yard throw to Anderson. Also, nice to see Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones looking on!
Chucks: Ok, is it bedtime yet?
Ryan Heatly: If Denver stop this drive, you've got to fancy them.
Scotland-born Graham Gano helps calm things down for Carolina with a 39-yard field goal. Just over 10 minutes to go - either team can win it. Exciting stuff!
Bad false start penalty for Carolina here - could nerves be kicking in now?
Gain of 12 yards for Stewart as Carolina have two big plays on this drive. Can they come back here?
Drama - Kony Ealy with his third sack on Manning this game! The ball sprays out on to the field and who gets it? Yes - it's Carolina!
Denver at third down after a nice reception to Emmanuel Sanders a couple of plays before. This could be a big one coming up...
Peyton Manning is poised to get the quarter started on a second down for Denver. Can the Colorado team seal a crucial victory tonight?
"Denver defensive co-ordinator Wade Phillips has done a great job - not only in this game but right through the play-offs."
The clock runs out, and we have just one quarter remaining in Super Bowl. The Denver Broncos, the big underdogs, have victory in their sights. Can they hold on?
Who's afraid of the big bad Wolfe? Derek Wolfe that is - he gobbles up Cam Newton for a sack and forces the Panthers to punt. The Panthers offence was electric in the play-offs but it just has not got going tonight. Denver's defence are playing lights out.
Tight end Greg Olsen has been very quiet tonight but he comes up with a good catch here to earn Carolina a first down.
Newton has quicker feet than a Strictly Come Dancing pro and they get him out of what seems a certain sack. But then, a rookie error - Newton loses track of the play clock and is penalised for delaying the game! It never rains but it pours...
So, Carolina start at their 20. They've had no luck with the hand-off to Jonathan Stewart and again it goes awry as Stewart is immediately gobbled up by Derek Wolfe for loss of a yard. However, Newton then finds Ginn wide open on the sideline for a first down.
Paul Henry Smith: Panthers still in this. All the signs of a classic fourth quarter!
Gregory Mandapat: The Broncos defence has done a great job neutralising the Panthers tight-end Greg Olsen. He's been their best receiving option all season.
Tre Boston is called for an illegal block and Carolina get a 15-yard penalty. Their discipline is hurting them tonight...
Ted Ginn takes Britton Colquitt's punt on his own 30, but the Denver security detail doesn't give him an inch.
