The British team comprises six full squads for the senior, under-23 and under-20 races as well as four athletes in the senior mixed relay for the first time.

Leading the way in the senior women's squad is trials winner Emelia Gorecka. She will be joined by 2014 European champion Gemma Steel, who was third at the trials event, Lily Partridge, Charlotte Taylor, Steph Twell and Elle Vernon.

Ben Connor, part of the men's team that won the gold medal in 2016, was victorious in the men's trial event and will be joined by debutants Alex Teuten and Sam Stabler, who were second and third respectively at the trials. Experienced trio Dewi Griffiths, Tom Lancashire and Andy Butchart complete the team.

Mahamed Mahamed and Jess Judd lead the U23 teams and Ben Dijkstra and Harriet Knowles-Jones are the names to watch in the U20 squads.

Get Inspired: How do I get involved in Cross-Country?

Cross-country running is a discipline that sees athletes race outdoors on grass or woodland courses. It usually takes place in the winter, outside of the track-and-field season. There is no set distance but races would usually fall into the long-distance category of running. Stamina and endurance are very important, but you also need to be ready to get muddy! While predominantly an individual sport, there is often a team element to races.
