That's it from us for this evening, after yet another impressive limited-overs performance from England. There's a sentence I thought I might never write. Join us tomorrow from 15:40 GMT for the second T20. Until then, goodbye.

'I've been watching the guys smash it everywhere'

Sam Billings, who hit 53 off 25 balls, on Sky Sports: "I've been on the sidelines watching the guys smash it everywhere. It's the nature of the job - you've just got to be ready.

"How I played is a credit to Morgy - he said 'play your way, play exactly how you got here in the first place'. Against a seriously decent, it's really pleasing to make a contribution."

Can Billings and Jos Buttler play in the same side? "Jos Buttler is a freak - he showed it the other night. Who knows? If we can both play in the same side it would be great."

Match report

Sam Billings' thrilling half-century led England to a 14-run win over Pakistan and a 1-0 lead in the three-match Twenty20 series.

Billings, in the side for the rested Jos Buttler, blasted 53 from 25 balls to take the tourists to 160-5 in Dubai.

They had earlier been rescued from 19-3 by Eoin Morgan (45 not out) and debutant James Vince (41).

Pakistan slipped to 42-4 and 75-7 and only reached 146 as England leaked runs at the end of the innings.

England, who won the one-day series 3-1 after losing the Tests 2-0, have now won four successive T20 internationals.

Captain's reaction

England captain Eoin Morgan: "Tonight was a really strong performance in which we showed a lot of character. To come back from 19-3 and then to defend 160 was really good. It's always a good sign of a changing room when players who haven't played all tour come out and perform - I'm really proud of them.

Captain's reaction

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi: "We don't have any excuses for this. It was a good effort from our bowlers - they did well, particularly in the first six overs. Eoin Morgan played smart cricket and very mature cricket and England built partnerships.

"That was a chaseable total. But we batted very poorly. I know we lost this game but we've got some positive things from it."

Man of the match

Sam Billings is named man of the match.

He says: "I loved it. I tried to back my own gameplan and thankfully it came off for me. You try and take your opportunity when you get it - I took inspiration from Jos Buttler the other day."

"What is England's best team? Seeing Billings and Vince today, I feel more confused. It's exciting but it's confusing."

"Will Joe Root and Jos Buttler come back tomorrow? What about Willey and Woakes? These are stand-out players from the one-day series."

Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

"England were missing big names in Root and Buttler. To find themselves 19-3 and to be able to rebuild, they have done well. England have got an exciting future - they've got some brilliant players. This squad can go far."

England win by 14 runs

And Eoin Morgan's men take a 1-0 lead in this three-match T20 series.

Imran edges the final ball of the innings behind to put the cherry on top of another impressive win for England.

"Brilliant effort from Wahab Riaz - he really gave it some impetus. To get it down to needing a few boundaries in the last over is a good effort. If you left early you'd be a bit gutted given the entertainment we've had."

Wahab c Moeen b Topley (Pak 145-9)

Wahab goes big again but he just doesn't quite get enough of it. Moeen takes the catch at long-on.

JoElle: Death bowling is still a problem for England.

Pak 145-8

Wahab misses the first ball, but he manages to muscle the second over mid-off. 16 needed off four.

"England will want to make sure the first two balls are bang on the money. They will want to finish this off comfortably."

Andrew Bedford: What do England set-up see in Chris Jordan? county trundler. Baffling.

Pak 141-8 (need 20 off 6)

Wahab just about keeps Pakistan in it with a big slice over point for four. And then another four, thick-edged down to third man off a full toss, gets the fans excited. Single off the final delivery, 20 needed off the last.

Pak 132-8

I don't think Adil Rashid's going to get a bowl here. Jordan takes the ball for the penultimate over. He starts well - just a single from his first three deliveries, and Pakistan need miracles now.

Chris Jordan

Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

"In the last couple of overs, Topley and Jordan have bowled four or five wides. England will want to make sure they don't leak too many runs."

Pak 131-8 (need 30 off 12)

Topley responds well under pressure - two good yorkers evade the bat of Tanvir, and a third is blocked out for a single.

Pak 129-8

Tanvir absolutely smashes Topley into the stands at cow corner. Life in this yet.

Sohail Tanvir

Toss to be scrapped in County Championship

What do the players think?

If the pitches are bad, why have no points been deducted in past few seasons??

So basically it's designed to reduce home advantage for teams, as long as it's teams with strong seam attack rather than spin.

@gurneyhf Shambles!! Negates the fact you should have home advantage! Pitches in Div 1 are mainly pretty good so i don't get it?!

Pak 121-8 (need 40 off 18)

Plunkett responds with a superb bouncer, and then a slightly slower delivery that beats the slog of Tanvir. Tanvir swings and misses again and they run a leg bye. That's a superb spell from Plunkett, 3-21 off his four overs - he's really proved a point today.

Pak 119-8

It's not over yet you know. Wahab picks up four with a glance off his legs before they pinch a single off the next ball.

Jon Dunn: Chris Jordan, mixing his half volleys with wides.

Paul Baldwin: Remind me again why Jordan is going to SA rather than Plunkett.

Pak 114-8 (need 47 off 24)

The occasionally wayward Jordan misfires with a couple of wides, before a huge hoick from Tanvir lands just out of reach of the diving Hales in the leg-side outfield. Wahab smashes over mid-off for two off the final ball, and that's a very good over for Pakistan - 14 off it, above the required rate.

Pak 108-8

Sohail smites Jordan down the ground and it just eludes the diving Rashid at long-off. And then he picks up another four, smashed through the gap at midwicket.

Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

"Good tactics from England. They tempted him by bringing the man up to mid-off and he couldn't get it over him."

Anwar c Morgan b Plunkett 20 (Pak 100-8)

Anwar knows he needs to give it some humpty, but it's not quite as easy against the extra pace of Liam Plunkett. He skies one to cover to give Plunkett his third wicket.

"Pakistan will feel like this game is not over yet."

Pak 95-7

There's still some fight in Anwar Ali, who dances to loft Stephen Parry into the stands at long-on. Hello, he's done it again, this time right over the sightscreen. A few more of these and we might have a game on...
