Patel has the last word

Surrey 273 v Warwickshire 12-0

Clive Eakin

BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Sport

"After being swept out of the ground for six off the first ball faced by Aaron Finch, Warwickshire spinner Jeetan Patel had the last word claiming a five wicket haul at Guildford.

"Patel came into the attack as early as the seventh over and took four of the last five wickets as Surrey collapsed from 243 for 5 to 273 all out.

"The first victim in that spell was Finch, who's brilliant, entertaining debut century dominated the Surrey innings."

Close of play at Guildford

WICKET Foakes (run out 23)

Surrey 252-9 v Warwickshire

Warwickshire have their first run out in Division One this season and Ben Foakes is the victim - he goes for 23. It is a direct hit from some fine fielding by Andrew Umeed, as Surrey tried to get Foakes on strike.

250 for Surrey

Surrey 251-8 v Warwickshire

Surrey reach 250 and the last 50 of those runs came from just 64 balls.

Moments later though, Warwickshire's Jeetan Patel gets his fourth wicket as Gareth Batty is caught for four runs. Is this becoming Warwickshire's day? Yes, you'd have to say it probably is.

WICKET Curran (b Patel 1)

WICKET Finch (c Clarke b Patel 110)

Century for Aaron Finch

Surrey 232-5 v Warwickshire

Clive Eakin

BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Sport

"It's been a brilliant century from Aaron Finch on his county debut, which has given the sizeable Guildford crowd value for money.

"His slog-swept six off his first ball wasn't typical of the innings in which the cover drive has been his most productive shot.

"The Warwickshire bowlers have asked him some questions but Finch has continued to score runs in entertaining fashion, his century coming off 90 balls with 15 fours and two sixes."

Finch gets his 100

Surrey 231-5 v Warwickshire

How many can Finch get?

Surrey 159-4 v Warwickshire

The longer Aaron Finch stays in, the more likely Surrey are to win this match. He's currently on 60, from 53 balls. Can he and Sam Curran bat out the rest of this first day's play? They are averaging four an over this afternoon.

Tea at Hove

Sussex v Glamorgan 190-4

It is fairly even at Hove as they go off for Tea. Jacques Rudolph is still going strong on 31, while David Lloyd is up to 10, and Glamorgan are close to securing at least one batting bonus point.

It's time for some cake, I think. Don't go too far, will you?

Inspection at Guildford at 15:30 BST

Surrey 123-3 v Warwickshire

We should know more about the state of play at Guildford in the next 15 minutes or so as there will be a pitch inspection carried out by the umpires at 15:30 BST. The rain stopped a while ago but a lot of water came down in the brief time that it was raining.
