Stumps - day four

So that brings the curtain down on another exciting week of County Championship cricket.

The highlight of day four had to be at New Road where Worcestershire reached a target of 401 to beat Northants.

Yorkshire also closed the gap on Division One leaders Middlesex with a 305-run victory over Nottinghamshire at Scarborough.

Paul Grunill is back with the next live text commentary on Sunday as Yorkshire take on Surrey in the semi-final of the One-Day Cup. That match starts at 13:00 BST.

Until then, goodbye and have a great Bank Holiday weekend.

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 223-8

Meanwhile back in Cardiff, Sussex are creeping towards the winning line.

Five overs to go.

George Garton and Ben Brown are the two batsmen in. 10 runs to win the game. #GOSBTS

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 404-8 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Unbelievable! Worcestershire have chased down 401 to beat Northants.

Joe Leach finishes the match with a six off Ben Sanderson.

It's Worcestershire's highest-ever run chase at New Road and the second best in their history.

What makes it even more extraordinary is that Northants scored 551 in their first innings.

Hats off to both captains though who made sure the game went down to the wire with some smart declarations.

Worcestershire need four to win

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 397-8 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Even bigger boundary at New Road as Jack Shantry finds the ropes off Ben Sanderson.

10 balls left.

Shantry lofted straight four off Sanderson - four needed

Sussex need 14 off seven overs

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 219-8

Big boundary for Sussex. George Garton hits Graham Wagg for four and the target is down to 14.

Worcestershire require 9 off 12 balls

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 392-8 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Joe Leach to face Ben Sanderson.

WICKET Barnard (c Murphy b Sanderson) 8

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 391-8 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Drama at New Road. With just 10 needed, Ed Barnard nicks Ben Sanderson behind.

Three overs left, Jack Shantry joins Joe Leach in the middle.

WICKET Briggs (c Meschede b van der Gugten) 36

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 211-8

The game takes another twist at the SWALEC.

Timm van der Gugten picks up his fifth wicket as Danny Briggs chips him to Craig Meschede at mid-on.

Sussex need 22 off 8.1 overs.

Worcestershire need 13 off 24 balls

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 388-7 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Eight runs come off Rory Kleinveldt's over to put Worcestershire back in the driving seat.

If they reach their target of 401, it will be the second-best chase in Worcestershire's history.

The 449-9 they made to beat Somerset in 1996 remains their highest.

Sussex require 27 off 10 overs

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 206-7

Surely this is Sussex's to lose now?

Danny Briggs and Ben Brown have put on 50 in 7.3 overs.

Super batting.

Worcestershire need 27 off six overs

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 374-7 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Oh, it's getting very tense at New Road now.

The scoring has slowed down and Worcestershire need almost a run-a-ball.

No nailed on result in this one yet.

Sussex need 35 off 11 overs

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 198-7

Are Sussex now slight favourites?

Danny Briggs has changed the complexion of the match with his 29 off 26 balls.

A wicket could change things though.

12 off the over

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 367-7 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Anything Danny Briggs can do at Cardiff, Joe Leach can match at New Road.

The Worcestershire all-rounder hits Chad Barrett for three fours in four balls to take the target down to 34 off 10 overs.

I'm going to stop making predictions, I have no idea which way either of these games are going to finish.

Briggs counters for Sussex

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 181-7

Danny Briggs has come out swinging! The 25-year-old hits Michael Hogan for three fours in an over and then finds another boundary off Craig Meschede in the next.

Sussex need 52 off 14 overs.

Both our remaining games are going down to the wire.

WICKET Cox (c Wakely b Keogh) 34

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 355-7 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Okay, maybe things aren't so set in stone at New Road.

Ben Cox is out two balls after Ross Whiteley, caught at mid-off.

Ed Barnard, who is a fine young batsman himself, comes to the middle.

Tough task for Sussex

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 163-7

Big ask for @SussexCCC now 157-7 another 76 needed in 17 overs @BBCSussexSport #bbccricket

WICKET Whiteley (b Barrett) 45

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 353-6 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Oh, sorry Worcestershire fans, I shouldn't have opened my big mouth.

Ross Whiteley goes next ball after hitting his fourth maximum, bowled by Chad Barrett.

Joe Leach is the new man in. 48 needed off 12 overs.

Worcestershire need 48 off 73 balls

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 353-5 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

I didn't think I'd be saying this a few hours ago, but Worcestershire look set to pull off this chase of 401.

It's quite unbelievable! Ben Cox hits a couple of boundaries off Chad Barrett, and Ross Whiteley then biffs him for his fourth six. I think they've lost the ball.

Whiteley is 45 off 29 balls - a simply brilliant cameo knock.

WICKET Archer (c Wallace b Hogan) 4

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 156-7

Sussex are in deep trouble now.

Michael Hogan removes Jofra Archer, caught behind, and Glamorgan only need three wickets.

The chase is still on with 76 required off 17 overs, but they need Ben Brown to stay there. He's on 18.

Somerset 587-8 dec v Hampshire 338 & 254-5

Jim Allenby
Rex Features

With no sign of Somerset picking up five quick wickets, the skippers decide enough is enough and settle for the draw at Taunton.

Hampshire take 10 points from the match and move to within 14 points of Durham in seventh.

Somerset are still in the title race - they're 22 points behind leaders Middlesex with four games left.

Whiteley on the charge

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 329-5 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Daryl Mitchell and Joe Clarke both made superb hundreds for Worcestershire, but Ross Whiteley might be their match-winner at New Road.

The big all-rounder continues to find the boundary hitting Chad Barrett for two fours to move to 38.

The hosts need 72 off 14 overs. If Whiteley stays there, they'll do that in a breeze.

Thriller at New Road

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 315-5 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Ross Whiteley continues his assault on the Northants bowlers, smashing Steven Crook for a four and six.

He moves to 28 off 22 balls with three sixes so far.

Thriller at New Rd, @WorcsCCC need 86 to beat @NorthantsCCC in 96 balls... #bbccricket

WICKET Adams (c Trescothick b Leach) 96

Somerset 587-8 dec v Hampshire 338 & 251-5

Jack Leach
Rex Features

Oh, there could be a bit of life left in the match at Taunton.

Jimmy Adams falls four runs short of a century, prodding Jack Leach to Marcus Trescothick at short-leg.

11 overs left for Hampshire to survive - their lead is just two.

Back-to-back sixes for Whiteley

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 302-5 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Worcestershire batsman Ross Whiteley had a look for a few overs and then BANG, BANG - six, six off Ben Sanderson.

The hosts are still in this chase at New Road - 99 off 17 overs is the equation.

WICKET Wright (b van der Gugten) 12

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 137-6

Sussex are making a complete mess of this chase.

Luke Wright is bowled by Timm van der Gugten and Glamorgan are now favourites.

96 needed off 22 overs, Ben Brown and Jofra Archer in the middle. Can Sussex keep their heads?

'Too close to call'

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 130-5

This is just too close to call @SussexCCC 130-5 need 103 to win in 24 overs @BBCSussexSport #bbccricket

This is just too close to call @SussexCCC 130-5 need 103 to win in 24 overs @BBCSussexSport #bbccricket

Great finish though!

'Winners are grinners'

Kent beat Gloucestershire by an innings and 69 runs

I bet there are a few cheery faces in the Kent dressing room right now...

Winners are grinners, Great team performance @kentcricket ..onto Hove next week! 🙌🏼 #superkent ✌🏼️

Sussex five down

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 129-5

Sussex are by no means home and hosed at Cardiff.

This one could still go either way with 25 overs left.

David Wiese plays on to Timm vd Gugten for 1 Sussex 128/5 needing 105 to beat Glamorgan #bbccricket

WICKET Clarke (lbw b Sanderson) 125

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 276-5 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Ah, that puts a spanner in the works in Worcestershire's pursuit of 401.

Joe Clarke goes for a quite sensational 125, lbw to Ben Sanderson, who now has three wickets.

Worcestershire still have batting to come, with Ross Whiteley and Ben Cox at the crease, but it's looking an increasingly tall order.

124 to win off 20 overs.

Durham 207 & 195-3 dec v Warwickshire 381-8 dec

When Rikki Clarke grabs a wicket with spin, you know it's game over.

And so it's proved as the captains shake hands at Chester-le-Street.

Rain washing out most of yesterday didn't help matters and it could well be the end of both side's slim title chances.

WICKET Rhodes (c Wakely b Sanderson) 5

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 274-4 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

George Rhodes comes and goes at New Road.

Joe Clarke is still there and holds the key - at the tender age of 20.

He's 125 not out. Worcestershire need 126 off 22 overs.

Strange happenings at Chester-le-Street

Durham 207 & 191-3 v Warwickshire 381-8 dec

Well, this is bizarre! Scott Borthwick is out for 92 to Rikki Clarke.

I'll let BBC Newcastle's Martin Emmerson explain...

Clarke comes on to bowl but bowls spin and Borthwick is bowled for 92, probably surprised by the lack of pace. 191-3, lead 17. #bbccricket

Sussex opener Nash dismissed

Glamorgan 252 & 263 v Sussex 283 & 125-4

Big wickets are falling everywhere over the last few minutes.

Chris Nash is now out for 64 at Cardiff, caught behind off Glamorgan seamer Graham Wagg.

Sussex require 108 off 28 overs.

WICKET Mitchell (c sub b Sanderson) 103

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 268-3 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

Huge wicket for Northants, massive loss for Worcestershire.

Skipper Daryl Mitchell goes for a brilliant 103.

George Rhodes, son of head coach Steve, comes to the crease with 133 needed off 23 overs.

Joe Clarke needs to play the innings of his life you feel - he's 124 not out.

Gloucestershire 221 & 243 v Kent 533-6 dec

Gloucestershire's lower-order resistance is finally broken by Kent's South African paceman Hardus Viljoen.

Liam Norwell edges him behind for a well-made 24 and Kent wrap up a huge victory.

They close the gap on Division Two leaders Essex to 24 points and their chances of promotion are still alive.

Two centuries for Daryl Mitchell

Worcestershire 201-3 dec & 257-2 v Northants 551 & 50-1 dec

He couldn't buy a run all season, but now the Worcestershire skipper has two in the same match! Superb batting.

The 32-year-old brings up his three figures off 160 balls and the hosts are in with an excellent chance of chasing down 401 at New Road.

144 needed off 25 overs - extraordinary.
