Thank you and good night

It is only right to end with these three clips: when each of Bangladesh's key batsman brought up their centuries and the moment the game was won. Enjoy...

Ralph Brooker: Shame that Shakib wasn't there at the end. Brilliant fifth wicket partnership which stole the neutral's heart.

Morwenna Roche: That game was just awesome!

'We just said to keep going'

Bangladesh batsman Mahmudullah: "We didn't talk too much. We just batted and enjoyed each other's company. We had to stay positive. Once the ball stopped swinging it became easier to bat on."

Bangladesh batsman Shakib, who was named man of the match: "We just said keep going. We didn't talk about the target, we just wanted to bat for 40 overs and see where we got to. It's very important, and a big thing for us. From here, we can only go forward."

BBC Test Match Special

More from Kane Williamson after his side's elimination: "Our best game was one we weren't able to finish against Australia. We came up against a tough side in England and felt in the hunt for a large amount of that game.

"It is a cut throat tournament. You have three games and you have to make the most of it. Today it is one partnership and we are going home."

How's stat?!

For the first time in 25 ICC tournaments (WC, WT20 and CT), New Zealand end a series without a single win.

'Bangladesh outplayed us'

BBC Test Match Special

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "It was certainly an innings of two halves. The first 20 overs we were simply outstanding. The way our bowlers applied themselves was brilliant. Hats off Shakib and Mahmudullah, they batted simply superbly.

"They outplayed us throughout their partnership and now they have every chance of going through.

"Conditions weren't easy but we left some runs out there. Closer to 300 would have been a par score. We were far from perfect but take nothing away from Bangladesh. They out played us today."

Charles Dagnall

BBC Test Match Special

The calmness the Bangladesh players showed under real pressure is something any cricketer can be in admiration of. It was wonderful to watch.

New Zealand eliminated

Bangladesh beat NZ by five wickets

In regards to the tournament, this defeat has eliminated New Zealand. Bangladesh now await the result of the game between England and Australia on Saturday. An England win sends the Aussies home. If it is rained off, the Aussies go home.

Looks like England have just hugely enhanced their fanbase.

Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

Bangladesh done it in some style. What a moment. There were lots of screams on the balcony.

It is great for the tournament and great for world cricket. It means a lot. I have been entertained.

What a game!

Bangladesh beat NZ by five wickets

In case you are only just joining us (in which case, what the....!), Bangladesh were 33-4 after 11.4 overs in pursuit of New Zealand's 266 here in Cardiff.

And yet they have managed to win it! The reason? Shakib al Hasan and Mahmudullah, who added 224 for the fifth wicket. Yep, 224. Shakib struck 114, with Mahmudullah unbeaten on 102.

Breathtaking.

Ban 268-5

Bangladesh win by five wickets

There it is! What a win! Mosaddek edges through the slips for four to seal the most remarkable of victories for Bangladesh!

Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

This is a moment he will never forget for his whole career.

Ban 264-5

Dot ball. We wait.

100 for Mahmudullah

Ban 264-5

Superb. Mahmudullah pulls Boult away to the midwicket boundary to reach three figures. He drops to the turf for a little kiss, and well he might. Just the two more needed for victory.

Ban 260-5

6 needed from 19 balls

Just a single this down to third man. Over to you Mahmudullah...

Ban 259-5

7 needed from 20 balls

Mosaddek is the new man and off the mark with a two down to wide third man.

Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

Unbelievable. This has been a perfect innings in terms of the chase. It's been in stages - he rebuilt, maneuvered the field and then he started carving the ball through the infield. It's been perfection.

WICKET

Shakib b Boult 114 (Ban 257-5)

Bowls him! A full ball beats the swing from Shakib and a brilliant innings comes to an end. It is a shame he is not going to see it out but with Mahmudullah he has put on 224 - a partnership that is surely going to seal a remarkable win for Bangladesh.

Ban 257-4

And again. A big swing to a wider ball and the ball flies through off and away. Just brilliant.

Ban 253-4

Four more! Shakib punches Boult down the ground to the rope.

Charles Dagnall

This is incredible from these two....

Athar Ali Khan

Former Bangladesh all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

Sensational, absolutely brilliant! What an innings, Shakib has been at his best. He's not been in form so what a time to come back into form.

Ban 249-4

17 needed from 24 balls

A last-ball single means Mahmudullah will have to wait for the chance of his own century.

100 for Shakib

Ban 248-4

Take a bow Shakib al Hasan. Magnificent. Just magnificent. After he and Mahmudullah each move to 99, the former top-edges a pull over the keeper for six. Not a bad way to bring up what has been a truly stunning century.

Athar Ali Khan

Former Bangladesh all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

I'm pleased to see the way these two batsmen are still at the crease looking so calm. Who would have thought they could do this when they came together at 33-4?

Scott Read

BBC Test Match Special commentator

This must be the best partnership in Bangladesh's one-day history.

Ban 240-4

26 needed from 30 balls

These two are matching each other shot for shot, run for run. They trade a couple of singles before Shakib clubs one down the ground for four.

The partnership is worth 207 now. Both batsmen have 98. Awesome.

Ban 232-4

34 needed from 36 balls

Considering the way this game has developed over the course of this innings, this is one of THE great ODI partnerships. Neesham returns in hope of ending it but Mahmudullah is seeing it like a beach ball now. He plays a brilliant steer shot to a short ball to send it over the keeper for four. Subtly superb.

Here is one of his more brutal shots this innings...

From the press box

The highest ever partnership in Bangladesh ODI history and, given the circumstances, quite possibly the greatest too

Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

That was a superb piece of fielding from Southee - he threw it between his legs. He must have added yoga to his training schedule.

Ban 224-4

41 needed from 42 balls

New Zealand are falling apart! Southee, who was the very epitome of accuracy at the start of this run chase, sends both of his first two balls wide. That is 17 now for the innings!

Hearts are in mouths for a moment when Southee directly hits the stumps with a superb little throw through his own legs, but Shakib was home.

Salt is poured into the wound when a short ball is cut for four by Shakib right through the hands of Guptill.

Sho Rahman: Come on Bangladesh! Hold it together!

Ban 215-4

51 needed off 48 balls

The Bangladesh fans are dancing in the stands now. They sense they've broken the Kiwis. Mahmudullah dances down and launches Santner down the ground for four. The bowler is thrown out of his rhythm as a big wide illustrates next ball.

A couple of well-run twos, a single and a cut shot that falls short of point makes it another good over for the chasing side.

This partnership is now worth 182 - the highest for Bangladesh for any wicket in ODI. It is all about timing, and these two have saved their best for the perfect moment.

Everything is coming up Bangladesh now...

Dan Norcross

BBC Test Match Special

It's pretty much entirely Bangladesh fans here in Cardiff today. It's all going tremendously well for them. They need not panic - but I know they are.

Ban 205-4

61 needed from 54 balls

When I left you after the 20th over, New Zealand were favourites to win this. Returning 20 overs later, I can't see Bangladesh losing it. Remarkable turnaround.

Williamson turns to his top man, Southee, to try and change that. He can't though. Shakib absolutely wallops one through cover for four to take his side past 200. Victory is in sight.

What now New Zealand?

Ban 196-4

Target 266

The Bangladesh supporters are growing in volume. They are massive favorites now, you feel. Here's Phil Dawkes to see this game to its conclusion.
