Close of play scores

My word! What a climax to the action after four days....

Derbyshire 363 & 190-5 drew with Nottinghamshire 229 & 349

So so close, yet so far for Derbyshire as the weather beats them to the punch.

Searching for their first Championship victory since July 2015, the visitors did absolutely everything they could on the final day to claim victory.

After the morning session was washed out, Tom Taylor bowled brilliantly to dismiss the hosts for 349.

Set a target of 216 runs from 49 overs, a brilliant 61 from Wayne Madsen and an unbeaten 31 from Gary Wilson took them to the brink of a famous win, but sadly the rain won and saved Notts.

Northamptonshire (338 & 205-8) beat Durham (166 & 376) by two wickets

They've done it! Finally....

Incredible scenes out there in the middle. Nathan Buck and Ben Sanderson scramble through for a bye off Paul Coughlin and Northants have got home to win this game by two wickets with just a ball to spare!

WICKET Cobb (c Pringle b Coughlin) 21

Northamptonshire (338 & 204-8) need 1 more run to beat Durham (166 & 376)

You what????

Still we're not done here. Josh Cobb is out caught at third man trying to finish it off with two balls to spare.

Northants need one to win off the last two balls but there's only two wickets left now!

WICKET Rossington (c Poynter b Coughlin) 0

Northamptonshire (338 & 203-7) need 2 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

And still there's a twist!

Adam Rossington is caught behind off his first ball and now Northants still need two to win off five balls.

WICKET Hughes (c Cook b McCarthy) 9

Northamptonshire (338 & 202-6) need 3 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

My word! Still this game has a twist....

Chesney Hughes tries to finish it off with another boundary, but skews a shot down to third man and is caught.

Cobb swings and misses at the next ball and three runs will be required off the final over for Northants.

Four from Hughes!

Northamptonshire (338 & 202-5) need 3 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Barry McCarthy to Chesney Hughes....

Ramp shot from Hughes finds the boundary for four and now just three runs required!

How cruel on Derbyshire!

It's raining still at Chester-le-Street, but they're playing on....

Heavy rain at Trent Bridge

Derbyshire (363 & 190-5) need 26 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

The rain is beating down in Nottinghamshire and it's fair to say that we won't be getting back out there at Trent Bridge.

Such agony for Derbyshire.

Under 10 required....

Northamptonshire (338 & 196-5) need 9 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Chesney Hughes flicks two off his legs form the first ball of Barry McCarthy's next over.

Nine required now for victory....

Two overs to go...

Northamptonshire (338 & 194-5) need 11 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Chesney Hughes flicks one off his legs towards deep mid-wicket and is inches from being caught.

Josh Cobb strikes one out towards the boundary and Keaton Jennings fails to cling on to it with his diving stop and knocks it over the rope for four.

Steady rain starts to fall with the equation down to 11 off 12 balls!

Three overs left....

Northamptonshire (338 & 179-4) need 18 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Just a couple taken off five balls of Barry McCarthy's over with the wicket of Rory Kleinveldt as well.

But, the last ball is CLUBBED FOR SIX by Josh Cobb and now the equation is down to 18 off 18 balls for Northants.

Rain stops play at Trent Bridge

Derbyshire (363 & 190-5) need 27 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

It's agony for Derbyshire. Needing just 27 runs from 48 balls and they're taken off for rain at Trent Bridge now.

Derbyshire on course

Derbyshire (363 & 187-5) need 29 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

Seven runs and a wicket from the first over after the resumption which leaves Derbyshire needing 29 runs off eight overs at Trent Bridge.

WICKET Kleinveldt (c Collingwood b McCarthy) 9

Northamptonshire (338 & 179-5) need 26 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Another twist in this one!

Rory Kleinveldt goes down the ground but can't clear the fence. Paul Collingwood takes the catch at long-on.

Next ball, Josh Cobb is dropped by Michael Richardson in the deep.

Drama to the last here!

Four overs to go....

Northamptonshire (338 & 179-4) need 26 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Paul Coughlin sends down a ball that's too short and is no balled. Not the time to give away two runs and a delivery if you want to avoid defeat.

Josh Cobb and Rory Kleinveldt rotate the strike neatly for the rest of the over.

26 more to win now off 24 balls.

WICKET Hughes (lbw b Fletcher) 24

Derbyshire (363 & 182-5) need 34 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

Not what Derbyshire would have wanted.

Luke Fletcher traps Alex Hughes plumb in front for 24.

Jeevan Mendis joins Gary Wilson (31 not out) at the crease.

Nine overs left at Trent Bridge

Derbyshire (363 & 180-4) need 36 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

Derbyshire need 36 off nine over at Trent Bridge.

Five overs to go...

Northamptonshire (338 & 173-4) need 32 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Rory Kleinveldt has come out to join Josh Cobb in the middle after Rob Keogh's dismissal.

He clubs a boundary off Barry McCarthy and is then dropped next ball by the bowler off a sharp return chance, getting two runs in the process.

32 runs needed now off 30 balls in the gloom.

Play to restart at Trent Bridge

Derbyshire (363 & 180-4) need 36 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

No word on how many overs are left just yet but play is about to get under way again at Trent Bridge with Derbyshire needing just 36 runs to win.

WICKET Keogh (c&b Coughlin) 13

Northamptonshire (338 & 158-4) need 40 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Josh Cobb survives being run out as he takes a quick single off Paul Coughlin.

But, the next ball Rob Keogh skies a ball high into the dark skies, Coughlin does tremendously well to get underneath it and hold on to the catch.

Northants now need 40 off 36 balls.

No changes at Trent Bridge

Derbyshire (363 & 180-4) need 36 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

It's seeming more and more unlikely that we'll be getting back out at Trent Bridge, which feels unbelievably cruel on Derbyshire.

WICKET Wakely (run out) 84

Northamptonshire (338 & 158-3) need 46 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Is this a twist in the tale?

Northants skipper Alex Wakely is run out going for a second off Barry McCarthy.

Keaton Jennings' brilliant throw in from the boundary sees him stranded short despite a despairing dive.

Josh Cobb the new man in for the visitors.

Lights on at Chester-le-Street

Northamptonshire (338 & 155-2) need 50 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Getting slightly gloomier at Chester-le-Street and the floodlights are on.

Northants plug on though and now need 50 off 48 balls.

Derbyshire (363 & 180-4) need 36 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

A quirk of cricket for certain and it may just deny Derbyshire a first Championship win since July 2015.

Blow to the neck for Alex Wakely

Northamptonshire (338 & 150-2) need 55 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Break in play in the north east as Alex Wakely takes a blow from a short, rising delivery from Gavin Main.

He's struck around the neck and is receiving some treatment.

Northants need 55 more runs off 54 balls meanwhile.

Bad light stops play at Trent Bridge

Derbyshire (363 & 180-4) need 36 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

Can you believe it??!!!

The umpires have taken the players off the field for bad light with Derbyshire needing just 36 runs to win.

Into last 10 overs....

Northamptonshire (338 & 143-2) need 62 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

10 overs to go now at Chester-le-Street.

Couple of tight overs from Gavin Main and Paul Coughlin, but Alex Wakely (74 not out) finds a timely boundary to keep his side in the hunt.

62 more runs required off 60 balls for Northants.

Wilson not hanging around

Derbyshire (363 & 172-4) need 44 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

Gary Wilson is taking the attack to the Notts bowlers, hitting Samit Patel and Luke Fletcher to the boundary rope in consecutive overs.

Derbyshire's target is now 44 runs off 15 overs. It should be simple enough but nothing is easy when you haven't won a Championship match since July 2015.

Northamptonshire (338 & 123-2) need 73 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Down to the last 12 overs at Chester-le-Street.

Northants have the equation down to 73 needed off 72 balls with Alex Wakely (65 not out) and Rob Keogh (4 not out) in the middle.

Derbyshire bring up their 150

Derbyshire (363 & 151-4) need 65 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire (229 & 349)

Gary Wilson smacks Samit Patel to the cover boundary to take Derbyshire past 150.

Their target is now 65 runs off 18 overs.

Thrilling finish at Trent Bridge

Nottinghamshire 229 & 349 v Derbyshire 363 & 145-4

Dave Bracegirdle

BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Thrilling conclusion now seems likely at Trent Bridge, where Derbyshire have lost a fourth wicket in pursuit of 216.

Wayne Madsen had played beautifully for his 61 but then a rush of blood saw him sky Samit Patel to deep backward point, where Brett Hutton has taken a magnificent diving catch.

Alex Hughes (17 not out) and Gary Wilson are at the crease with Derbyshire 145-4 needing 71 from 19 overs.

WICKET Newton (McCarthy b Coughlin) 54

Northamptonshire (338 & 123-2) need 82 more runs to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Big breakthrough for Durham as Rob Newton skies a catch to the deep off Paul Coughlin's bowling.

Barry McCarthy takes a stunning catch running back from mid-on. Rob Keogh is the new man in.

50 for Rob Newton

Northamptonshire (338 & 122-1) need 83 more run to beat Durham (166 & 376)

Half-century for Rob Newton as Northants try to keep the runs ticking over.

They've got 15 overs left to get another 83 runs...

68 balls, 7x4s and 1x6 for Newton's 50. @NorthantsCCC 120-1 need 85 in 15.3 overs to beat @DurhamCricket #bbccricket

WICKET Madsen (c Hutton b Patel) 61

Nottinghamshire 229 & 349 v Derbyshire 363 & 141-4

Oh dear. I am a terrible, terrible jinx.

Wayne Madsen departs for a brilliant 61 after an excellent catch by Brett Hutton from Samit Patel's bowling.

Derbyshire's task just got a little harder against the current Division Two leaders.
